WHAT  WE  DO

Valley Health Associates (VHA) offers solutions to the deadly opioid epidemic by providing a Comprehensive Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT) Program for adults and an Outpatient Drug Treatment Program for youth. Established in 1992, our agency has grown to become a well-respected, premier provider of evidence-based, comprehensive outpatient recovery programs that include customized prevention, intervention, and treatment services to those in our community dealing with the devastating effects of substance use disorders.

The VHA team is proud to have developed a safe, caring, and supportive environment in which to deliver our whole-person approach to care. Our specialized medical team works closely with our skilled counselors to implement program components that not only restore but save lives.

As VHA clients pursue lives free of mind-altering substances, through our Comprehensive MAT Program and Outpatient Drug Treatment Program, they are also able to achieve healthy lifestyle changes and long-term wellness due to having relief and safety from severe, life-threatening withdrawal symptoms. Program exit strategies assist the patient in acquiring coping skills necessary to live a productive, responsible life.

VHA has established partnerships with the Monterey County Behavioral Health, Alcohol & Drug Division; the United States Probation and Pretrial Service System, and the United States Federal Bureau of Prisons. We diligently strive to offer services that will enhance the lives of those we serve by keeping a pulse on our community’s needs.

As an example, VHA’s Youth Outpatient Program is the first in Salinas. In addition, VHA’s Comprehensive MAT Adult Outpatient Program was recently approved to increase the number of service slots from 100 to a much needed 130 patients for daily treatment. And more, a memorandum of understanding is being negotiated with the Monterey Sheriff’s Department to allow VHA access to the County Jail to initiate our MAT Program with incarcerated individuals.

VHA is compliant with all regulations and standards, and we are licensed, certified, and accredited by the following entities:

  • U.S. Department of Health and Human Services

  • The Drug Enforcement Agency

  • The Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities

  • Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration

  • The State of California, Department of Health Care Services

With aims of further operational improvements, we are the recipient of technical assistance through the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration’s (SAMHSA) Bringing Recovery Supports to Scale Technical Assistance Center (BRSS TACS) and the Opioid Response Network-State Targeted Response (STR) Technical Assistance (TA) program. These efforts are to continue the growth of the agency through executive coaching and board development to create an agency culture that best supports the full range of post-treatment recovery.
